The gardens include an alpine garden, medicinal and food gardens, and an Asian garden. The UBC also maintains the Nitobe Memorial Garden, one of North America's most authentic Japanese Tea Gardens. The garden includes a rare authentic ceremonial Tea House. Visiting the garden year round yields different views, though around September you can expect the visual treat of the maple trees turning golden. Admission is $10 and includes the Nitobe Memorial Garden, children under 18 go free.

Nestled in the beautiful city of Portland, Oregon, the Portland Classical Chinese Garden is an authentically built, Ming Dynasty style garden. This oasis of tranquil beauty was built by Suzhou artisans in the year 2000, to signify the twinning of Portland and Suzhou. Covered walkways, bridges, open colonnades, pavilions and a richly planted landscape frame Zither Lake, creating unique views at each and every turn. The admission prices are usually under $10, and free to children under 5.
